GMail on my G1 recently stopped syncing. The little sync indicator does its spinny-thing, but I don’t get new email from the server. Searches for “G1 sync fail gmail” and similar combinations didn’t turn up any good prospects initially. I eventually found the simple solution on the Google mobile support foums. Hope this helps someone [...]

Personalize Your Comments
If you’ve ever posted or read comments on a blog, you’ve probably noticed the little icons associated with each post. If you’re a new commenter, you may wonder why you get some sort of boring nondescript icon instead of something that reveals your True Character.
While some sites’ comment systems have their own proprietary way to [...]
Presentation Tips: More from Lawrence Lessig
I posted back in March about Lawrence Lessig’s “Keynote Ballet.” Lessig gives beautiful presentations. He uses simple slides in a way that illustrates his points without boring his audience. I occasionally find myself counseling clients to skip bullet-heavy PowerPoint decks in favor of an approach similar to Lessig. Please take a moment to watch this [...]
#SXSW2009 – Tony Hsieh, Zappos.com
Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh (pronounced “shay”) is a smart, friendly guy. In 1994 he started a business selling pizzas. Today, Zappos sells upwards of a billion dollars worth of shoes per year. Tony attributes much of Zappos success to one core element: company culture. Every Zappos employee, from the stock-room to the [...]
#SXSW2009 – Lawrence Lessig, Change v2.0
Lawrence Lessig is known for his focus on technology and law, especially as it applies to copyrights. A couple of years ago, he announced his intention to change his focus from copyright matters to political corruption. Earlier this year, he helped launch Change Congress, a web based project aimed at educating people [...]
#SXSW2009 – Bruce Sterling
photo by Scott Beale / Laughing Squid
I spent the last week at SXSW Interactive 2009 in Austin, TX. This was my second time attending. I’m still unpacking, physically and metaphorically, and I plan to post some thoughts and reactions over the next couple of days.
About the title: using # symbols is a trend that’s recently [...]
Illustrating With Comics: Pixton
Back in ‘07, I saw an interesting presentation by Rebekah Sedaca that advocated using comics to help clients better understand a process/design/etc. Comics can help serialize interactions in a way that’s clearer than the output of interaction-mapping tools like Visio. With comics, you can also detail the responses that a visitor/user might have – something [...]
Validated
Call me a geek, but I think it’s awesome that whitehouse.gov validates. Has the site always had an accessibility statememt?
And while I’m thinking of it, three cheers for the jQuery image slideshow on the homepage.
Arduino Ambient Orb Weather Predictor Revisited
Back in February, I posted about some new enclosures I’d built for my weather beacon.
This weekend, I finally got around to tweaking the code for my beacon. I was inspired to work on it after receiving one of ThingMs spiffy new MaxM’s. They’re nice and bright and will work with any BlinkM code you may [...]
Chumby <3’s Pandora
Today, Chumby Industries announced that they now offer Pandora Radio as a music and alarm source. I’ve had my Chumby for over a year now and it remains one of my favorite gadgets. I don’t really experiment with it as much as I did when I first got it, but I use it every day. [...]
